Story

The Tresse is a set of four round placemats, hand-braided from water hyacinth in a spiral weave. Named after the French word for braid — because the weave is the whole point.

Made in Ninh Bình, along Vietnam's Red River Delta, where water hyacinth grows along the river systems and lakes. Harvested, dried, and braided by hand into the dense, flat spiral pattern that gives this piece its texture.

Dia 34cm per mat.

Practical for everyday use. Beautiful for a set table. The natural water hyacinth tone shifts slightly between mats — a quality of the material, not a defect.

A set of four hand-braided water hyacinth placemats, coiled in a tight spiral weave, made in Ninh Bình, along Vietnam's Red River Delta — named Tresse, the French word for braid, for the texture you can feel underhand. Water hyacinth stalks are braided into a flat rope, then coiled from the centre outward into the round form, one continuous braid rather than separate woven strands. The edge is finished where the braid ends, tucked flush against the last coil. 34cm diameter.
