Story

The Coco is a handcrafted coconut shell bowl, its interior inlaid with a mother-of-pearl mosaic in pink and blue florals against cream and gold tile. Named simply after the coconut — because some things need no translation.

Made in Boi Khe Village, Chuyên Mỹ Commune, Phú Xuyên District, Hanoi — a mother-of-pearl inlay tradition dating back to the 11th century, during the Lý Dynasty, and practised continuously for more than 900 years. The coconut shell is shaped, polished, and inlaid by hand. Each bowl carries its own floral arrangement — no two are exactly alike.

Food-safe for cold use; not intended for hot food or liquids. Sold as a set of 4. Dia 13cm × H 6cm per bowl.

Care Instructions

Coconut shell is hard, durable, and entirely unbothered by daily use.

  • Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water. Do not soak.

  • Do not place in a dishwasher or microwave.

01 / The Craft

Handcrafted Artistry

The coconut shell is first dried and shaped — the natural form of the shell determines the bowl's silhouette. The exterior is polished to its natural dark tone, and the mother-of-pearl mosaic is inlaid into the interior surface by hand. A sealing finish is applied over the inlay, tested for cold food contact.

No two bowls in the set carry exactly the same mosaic arrangement.

02 / The Materials

Organic Materials

Materials

Coconut shell — a by-product of coconut cultivation, shaped and polished by hand. Mother of pearl inlay in mixed colourways — the variation in colour between fragments is natural and intentional. Food-safe for cold use

The Coco in Your Home

Four coconut bowls named after the thing they're made from. Beautiful and useful every day.

  • The Coconut Kitchen — the four bowls as a fruit bowl set on a kitchen counter or dining table, holding fruit, nuts, or dry snacks. Small enough to be useful, beautiful enough to be decorative.
  • The Catch-All Set — keys in one, coins in another, a candle in a third. Four bowls for four surfaces that need a beautiful small object.
  • The Considered Gift — four bowls in a set, from a mother-of-pearl inlay tradition nearly 900 years old. A complete and considered gift for any occasion.
  • The Gathering Piece (For Guests) — set out with fruit or snacks when friends are over; the floral inlay is sure to catch the eye.
